Follow The Love When Disaster Strikes
My house flooded, and I learned that when you don't know where to go or what to do, just follow the love.
Here's the full story:
I came home to find my brother Lou, shop vac in hand, suctioning water from my library floor. Half of my library, the entire powder room, laundry room, and half of my kitchen had flooded. Lou had shut off the water and immediately got to work removing it. I joined him with an extra shop vac and, within 40 minutes, we were able to clear away the water. Upon further inspection, we discovered that a burst pipe had led to a slab leak which overflowed through the floor.
We immediately filed an insurance claim and, within a day, found ourselves in a beach house waiting for cleanup and repairs to our home. Instead of judging the situation as horrible and unwanted, we embraced the forced vacation that the Universe had given us. There is always an upside to a negative situation, even if it’s only a newly realized grain of truth. With that truth, we can choose to do something new. As I mentioned in my other journal entry about receiving, I have learned to embrace “negative” situations for their hidden blessings and purpose.
Follow Love To New Friendships
Next door to our beach house rental was a couple named Tommy and Priscilla who were staying for a week to celebrate Tommy’s birthday. Over grilled meats and a mutual appreciation for NASCAR, we bonded and formed a neighborly friendship.
On their final night, we shared food, drank sangria, and took shots of chilled tequila. Once my children were put to bed, we sat facing each other while the cable fence separating our patios hung suspended between us.
Our conversation eventually meandered into the metaphysical. We talked about elves, gnomes, and angels. Tommy shared a dream that had awakened him and led him to his grandmother’s hospital bedside where, during her final breath, he was able to take her hand and say goodbye.
With their permission, I was able to transmit messages from their loved ones. Through me, their loved ones shared bits of private conversations they had overheard during the vacation.
“I am tripping!” Tommy said in response to the messages I shared.
Priscilla was amazed at the precise details and insights her loved ones had for her. She described the experience as “a gift.”
Follow The Love To Grow A Business
The most important message Tommy’s loved ones left for him before signing off was a powerful one.
They said, “The most important thing you need to know that will help you grow your business is this: follow the love.”
I explained, “When you are looking for business, don’t force it…”
Tommy interjected, “I have a tendency to force things into happening.”
“If you follow the love, then you will be guaranteed success,” I continued. “If people are not responsive and aren’t sharing the vibration of positivity, then let them go because their rejection may actually be protecting you from getting hurt.”
Tommy pondered the meaning.
“Those who aren’t ready will eventually come around. And if you train your people who make calls to follow the love, your business will surely grow.”
Tommy said that “Follow the love” would become his new mantra for life.
How Can We All Apply Follow The Love In Our Lives?
We all know, to some degree, what love feels like. Love isn’t something we have to force. Love is patient. Love is kind. Love is honest. There is no gray area when it comes to love.
It’s as clear as a bright sky.
And so, instead of muddying the lines, it’s important to act and live within that space. Yes, following the love requires courage and determination. Yes, following the love requires endless heaps of optimism. But following the love doesn’t mean we have to be naive or helpless when it comes to our personal and business affairs. In fact, being in a state of love is one of the most aware spaces we can inhabit.
Following the love demands faith. It requires that we trust and continue walking in that trust as if we are moving through darkness with only a flashlight that allows us to see five feet ahead. However, that’s how life often is — a walk in the dark.
I think that’s why many people enjoy talking with psychics and intuitives because it extends that view a little further — perhaps an extra five feet. However, for a good psychic or intuitive to truly tap into Spirit, they must put all self-interest aside and see the signs and symbols for what they are, allowing the person they are reading for the opportunity to decide what those symbols mean for themselves.
It’s important for me to say that we are all psychic, and the movement we embark upon throughout our lives is an act of reading the signs, symbols, and energy within every life experience we encounter. It’s up to us to decide what those signs mean and whether we are going to pay attention to the ones leading us toward brighter days and new opportunities.
We all have our own inner guidance systems. And by following the love, we use those inner guidance systems. Furthermore, by acting in love — through what is often called “Right Action” — the doors of opportunity fling wide open.
Following The Love Is More Than Pseudo-Spirituality & Intellectual Escapism
Following the love is not a passive approach to life. Following the love is active, engaging, courageous, and brave. Following the love says, “I’m going to take a chance and trust.”
Without right action, all intentions, prayers, and hopes are dashed because we live in a material world where love must manifest through choices and action. Following the love means embracing life no matter the form it takes, with as little judgment and over-analysis as possible.
There are psychics and intellectual escapists who talk endlessly about concepts like “following the love,” “believing,” and “having faith.” Unfortunately, none of those things mean anything if they only imagine and never act.
Through our choices and our actions — as well as our inaction — we affirm our beliefs and faith. If we don’t follow the love through action, then no amount of Facebook or Instagram positivity memes will ever truly change our lives.
Maybe that’s what Jesus meant when he said, “Pick up your cross and follow me.” — Matthew 16:23–25.
If we assume that Christ Consciousness is a mental, emotional, and physical state of unconditional universal love, then perhaps Jesus simply meant: “Follow the love.”
If God is love, then why can’t we follow the love? Where will it lead us?
